Air pollution and water contamination are major issues facing all Canadians, but there is mounting evidence that marginalized communities are disproportionately affected. This is environmental racism. This panel will discuss environmental racism in Canada, how other regions are tackling this problem, and solutions to dismantle systemic racism. 

Senator Bernadette Clement, lawyer and the first Black woman to serve as a mayor in Ontario. As a senator, she intervenes in committee study and Senate debate most often as an ardent advocate for Black, Indigenous, and racialized people. Senator Clement finds joy in connecting with youth and marginalized groups at events and speaking engagements.
